Spring Break

Typically, any other spring break I would go home for the week to rest and catch up on course work. This time around my one art class decided to go to New York City for the week. We stayed inbetween SoHo and Chinatown. And we were only a block from Little Italy! I was happy as a bean!

Our first day up, we spent the evening in Central Park. We went and had a nice coffee break at a little cafe.

Diva friend, Liz.

Our professor and her "ducklings". Then below is Diva Liz once again whilst we were at dinner at the Heartland Brewery before we headed off to see a movie and frolic around the Strand bookstore.

At the Strand, I got a copy of the Great Gatsby.

The next morning we went off to the Bluebird Sky Cafe for breakfast before heading off to Brooklyn to meet an artist, Molly Dilworth.

At Molly's we talked about community art and what she does as an artist. Here is a video of her work:

And a sneak peek of her current project

After our morning visit with Molly, we retired back to the city to eat at a Japanese restaurant, Asahi. I love sushi and think I may have had the best at this place. They also have amazing ginger salads!

Next, we went to the MOMA; a place I've been waiting to see for a long time. I finally saw Starry Night by Van Gogh for the first time and the room of Monet, which made me cry.
(these pictures don't serve justice by the way)

I also got to see the wonderful Eva Hesse and once again, a Richard Serra piece.

Later that night, we had a very blurry evening at a Mexican bar in downtown SoHo. I had a (damn strong, but good) bloody orange margarita.

The next day we attended a workshop in Brooklyn at the 3rd Ward; a very hip place indeed. I was so excited for the workshop because it was a printmaking workshop! My medium!

We got a fabulous kit to keep. All the basics without a press.

The reason for the used photos is because I missed half the workshop thanks to cutting myself with the knife and almost passing out. I basically spent the rest of the night sleeping in the hotel whilst everyone else took a trip to the MET. I guess a good artist never leaves the studio without a battle wound. *shrugs*

The last day in SoHo...we jumped across a few streets to Little Italy to eat at De Gennaro's. I can definitely say I the most wonderful Cesar salad in my life there.
